Johnathan Edward Hedifin Weinrich lived a life defined by resilience,

intellect, service, and an unforgettable presence. Larger than life and naturally charismatic, he connected effortlessly with people from every walk of life. His warmth, humor, kindness, and unmistakable laugh made a lasting impression wherever he went.

Born September 17, 1949, in New York City to John Edward and Anne (Murray) Weinrich, Johnathan grew up in the South Bronx and later attended high school in Calgary, Alberta. He earned his bachelor’s degree from SUNY Binghamton and graduated magna cum laude from Vermont Law School. He was admitted to the New York Bar in 1978.

During his distinguished legal career, Johnathan worked with the Legal Aid Society, co-founded Rutberg & Weinrich, served as legislative counsel, and became a Senior Trial Attorney with the Appellate Division of the New York State Supreme Court. His experiences taught him that people should never be defined by their worst moments and that everyone deserves a second chance.

Freemasonry was another important part of his life. A member of Uhland Lodge No. 735, he served as Worshipful Master, Grand Steward for the Bronx District, and Grand Representative of Alberta. He was also active with the Mecca Shriners, serving as Grand Potentate in 1998.

Johnathan deeply loved his children, Joy and Jonathan; his chosen family, Kristina, Michelle, and Yvonne; and his granddaughters, Olivia, Sophia, and Mariah. He also cherished his brothers, Jarret, Jan, and Jeth; his sister, Jonelle; and his longtime partner, Rosalinda Soto, with whom he formed “The Johnny & Rosa Show.”

Johnathan lived boldly, laughed often, loved deeply, and believed in forgiveness and new beginnings. His guiding motto was:

“The only prize in life is living another day.”

 

His stories, laughter, and spirit will remain forever in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. May his memory be a blessing.
